Simon Goddard was born in Glossop Terrace Maternity Hospital, Cardiff, on 21 December 1971. He grew up in Wales and Scotland before studying art in the North of England. He later moved to London to work as a music journalist and is currently a contributing editor to Q magazine.
His 2009 Mozipedia was voted Mojo magazine readers’ Book Of The Year and has since been published in three continents. His other books are: Ziggyology, a brief history of David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust; Simply Thrilled, the preposterous story of Postcard Records; Rollaresque, a history of the early Rolling Stones told as a picaresque novel; and Songs That Saved Your Life, hailed as the essential guide to the music of the Smiths.
His sixth book, The Comeback, will be published by Omnibus in 2018.
